I think the house Im living in it haunted. I hear strange things. There is one room in the house that has a smell like something dead in it. Its not a dead animal because the smell comes and goes depending on whos in the room. Ive also heard whistling and moaning. The house stays very cold all the time atleast 10 degrees cooler than the temp outside..Im in Australia so were going through winter. Heaters dont help. Its a bonechilling cold.

For the person saying its the vents...theres no vents in this house. The moans were late at night it sounded like someone crying, the walls are not thin they are solid brick through out. I have also heard things in that room being shuffled around couldnt be a mouse because all the boxes in that room are very heavy n huge...and Tak its Gidge *hugs*.

Oh yeah..the whistling couldnt be the what you said because it was whistling along to certains songs. Songs I KNOW theres no whistling in them..like 50cent and Blacksabbath!! As far as the smell goes....it comes out when any male comes into that room. We have investigated EVERYTHING that smell can be to the old bed in there to a possible leak in the ceiling to the actual light fixture. That smell is unexplainable. It cant be the person that goes into the room because I dont smell it OUTSIDE that room..so it definately cannot be blamed on a person causing the smell. It smells like full on decomposition

I don't think there is any way to actually know. If you believe in this kind of stuff... then there is most definitely something in the room with you. However... who really knows? That the problem with the paranormal... so hard to prove.

The heating issue could be something with your venting, as well as the whistling and moaning. Have a professional take a look around your house.
But 90% of most hauntings are just an overactive imagination anyway. You could be imagining smells and sounds.
But if you are really concerned, you could try hiring a paranormal investigator for a night. Just make sure you get one who looks to disprove, because if you get a strong believer who is trying to prove your house is haunted, they will take every excuse they can get. Or you could just try some of the techniques yourself, such as EVPs (electronic Voice Phenomenons), or video taping a room while no one is in it. You will need a tape recorder, or video recorder to do either of them though. Just try leaving the sound recorder in a room while everyone is gone from the house, and when you come back, listen to the tape.If you hear something that sounds like voices, it could be a spirit.
But chances are, it is probably just your imagination.

Well it sounds as if you definitely have someone with you! Dont be afraid though! Smells and sounds always signify a ghost. Often times smells help to identify a passed on loved one. My grandfather comes to visit me and I always know becos I smell beer. Oh and becos I have seen him.
So anyways, the best thing to do is to attempt to talk to them. If you can, research your house and try to figure out who it could be. If nothing turns up, or you find yourself afraid ask the ghost "What in the name of the Lord do you want?" Often times ghosts are simply unaware that they have passed on and need assistance. If you can, next time you feel the presence of someone, just talk to them, tell them who you are, and that they do not belong there and that they must move on. This should work.
I also suggest cleansing the house. Go to the store and buy a bunch of Sage. Burn it and walk around waving it make sure you really do it well. After you feel the house is cleansed then take salt and pour lines in the doors and windows. This seals them from allowing spirits to come in. I dont suggest doing this until you are absolutely sure that there are no more ghosts in the home, as it could seal them in!

there have been studies to prove or disprove these things. very few have gotten funding or been published. there is a strong tendency for people who believe in it to "find evidence" in support of it and vice versa.
as for the smell.... different people have different degrees of sensitivity, also air circulation makes a difference. if not a dead animal, what, a dead plant? pretty much anything that is decomposing smells dead. could be wood even, if your walls or floor are rotting.
insulating your home, plugging holes, etc. can help keep heat from leaving your house faster than you can generate it. also strategic placement of windows, but it may be too late for that if you don't want to tear out walls.
visit http://www.earthship.org/ for some interesting information on home building. you can also find information on where to put windows, what is good insulation, etc. to keep your home at an ideal temperature. it is cheap stuff too.

:-D I love haunted houses! But yes, it does sound like you have some stray souls in your midst. You can light a white candle and go through each room of the house, telling them that it's time to move on, asking them to go to their higher place now. The candle is said to light the way for them to see their way home. I've had to do this every few months here because we're between 2 cemetaries and are both (my fiance and I) very empathic lightworkers so they kind of gravitate here, but every time I've done it, it worked for a few months at a time and we didn't have any more disturbances (except the ones who were invited).

check out Sylvia Browne's web site I think you are supposed to say something like "White Light of the Holy Spirit" I'm not sure you will have to check it out but that phrase that she talks about is supposed to make them cross over and leave you alone. Good Luck!

try burning sage in the room that stinks. lit candles will help. dont be afraid of the spirits, they cant harm you. you might also get intouch with a medium, that would help more than anything, and if all else fails, move.
