Definitely the Beatles. The Stones came after the Beatles and were just Beatles wannabes.

Definately the Beatles, but the Stones are a good band.
The first Rolling Stones single was a Beatles song, written by Lennon/McCartney, titled: I Want To Be Your Man.
There wasn't so much a rivalry between the Beatles and the Stones in anything other than chart positions. The real competition was between Lennon/McCartney and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, who recorded some of the most experimental material of the 60s and 70s.

Fact; The Beatles had more number one singles in their 8 year history than the Rolling Stones have had in their 40+ year run.
The Beatles have the highest number of record sales in the world than any other band in history.
Personally, I like the Beatles better because their music is much more melodic with interesting hooks, chord structure and harmony. The Rolling Stones songs are too repetitive and lack variety.

John Lennon. The rest of the Beatles aren't blessed with that much talent.
