depends how bad or off it is, If I ordered a medium steak and it's more like medium rare, whatever, I'll eat it, but if I ordered steak and it comes out chicken heck yeah I sent it back. I'll also send it back if I made a specific request when I placed the order (like no gravy on the potatoes) and it isn't carried out. I wait tables for a living, or I used to (kind of on permanent maternity leave...) so I know how hard those people work, I also know (I never did it, but my co-workers HAVE) how some servers take it personally and get back at you buy spitting on your food or dropping it on the floor, something nasty and disgusting like that. I usually let my server know, casually that I wait tables for a living too, I get a little more respect from them, and also they know I'm not being difficult just because I'm a witch, that I DO understand what they go through. I also tip VERY generously, unless my service SUCKED (I mean REALLY bad, I've made mistakes too in waiting on tables so if someone forgets my refill or doesn't bring the ketchup out in 2 seconds flat I'm not mad... but If my order is screwed up, I go a LONG time without getting asked for a refill, AND the person is all and all out rude, yeah they get a crappy tip, and no offense but if you get a crappy tip from a fellow server, that says you REALLY bombed on that job). Did you know MOST servers are only paid $2 something an hour (depends on the state) so their ability to pay bills depends on the generousity of others, because there are a LOT of people out there that think tips are just charity, hand outs, and not necessary, when in fact they should look at it like the waitress (or waiter) OWNS that table, and you're renting it from them, AND IF you want a good table (to include good service) you have to PAY for it. Okay, I know I've gone off on my own little tangent that has NOTHING to do with your question... sorry!

I never had until the beginning of this year. LAst year I was very sick and I almost died. Since then I make sure I eat a balanced diet and food that is cooked correctly. So when I went out and one time a serving of fish was not cooked right through, I did make it noted and sent it back. The place was really great about it and of course they cooked another dish for me.
I guess, looking at it realisicaly, it is better to let the establishement know about it..because if they do not get told then they will not know what is wrong..better to know and keep the customers than have them never return :)

Would you return a sweater if when you got it home you found a pull in the thread? I think it's the same thing with Food that I order. If it is not done right, or not what i wanted then take it back and try again, and be quick about it with a smile on your face. I work in the service industry and give excellent customer service, so when I'm the customer I expect excellent service.

Most of the time I go to a drive thru, and don't think to look until I get home and then its to late but I have a few times sent food back at a restaurant, but only when its really messed up or completely wrong.

Sometimes...it depends on if its salvageable or if it even resembles what I ordered. I also try & be very nice about it because it's not the wait person's fault necessarily...but if it's unedible I may send it back & if it still doesn't come out right I'll just ask to speak to the manager & maybe get my meal for free.

I am a cook and I hope people send their food back If I screwed up. Most people dont send their food back because they are afraid someone might get pissed and tamper with their food. ie. Spit in it.
Personally I do not send it back for that reason.

It depends what they did to it. About 80% of the time I would have
to say yes if I'm not in a hurry and at a resturant. Unfortunately most
of the time its when you are in a hurry and went through a drive-thru
and that sucks because some times your 10miles away or more
by the time you realize its wrong. I have turned around though
a couple times because I was really mad.

Only if I ordered a dish with meat in it and the meat is under cooked or if it has something in it that has to be kept hot or cold to keep it from spoiling and the food is luke warm. Otherwise, I eat it wheter they bring exactly what I ordered or not.

Yes I do if I had specifically ordered it a certain way - well done and it comes to the table mooing, or comes with goat cheese as I am highly allergic to it. If it does not really matter much as it is a minor thing, I let it go. I choose my restaurant battles.

To send your food back, complain that it is not right, or to give the kitchen or wait staff a hard time will only result in a bad meal. You might not realize it...but trust me...its a bad meal.

Spit, urine, floor dirt, anchovies, the list goes on and on.
