There are a lot of reasons. For starters, the American diet is very unhealthy. It contains too much sugar, fat, and sodium. There are a lot of reasons for this, but mostly it has to do with personal choice and shopping habits.

The next big problem is stress. Americans are very stressed out. They work too much, don't get enough vacation, and live under the largest government ever conceived. They have more laws and rules than you can imagine. This has a very subtle yet powerful effect on people. They all know big brother is watching via satellite, tapping the phones, tracking their computer habits, and monitoring their purchases through bank records and credit-card transactions.

The last problem is acceptance. In America, it's ok to be overweight. In Europe it is still frowned upon. This also has a lot to do with government. After making sure they feel too guilty about smoking and drinking, people seek comfort in food. It is the only part of their lives where they still feel control.

Hmm, ok I am Canadian but I have been to Europe a lot and also worked there for a year, in France. What do you mean "more attractive"? Maybe you need glasses!

Yeah the women there tend to be thinner. But sickly, Kate-Moss-anorexic-thinner. If you find THAT sexy then obviously we have differing definitions of beauty.

Take a classic beauty like Marylin Monroe. She was American and curvy. She was not thin, and not sickly-looking. I find that way sexier than those starved waifs who look like they either are anorexic/bulimic OR on heroin or cocaine.

Yes we have a huge obesity and poor-health problem here in the West. But after living among the ridiculously skinny women in France, I feel much happier here where curves are more accepted. I don't think we ought to encourage obesity. For health reasons! But I don't think we should equate being skinny with being beautiful. NO way! And another thing, European women tend to drink a lot and smoke like chimneys. I'm sure that ain't helping them pack on the pounds.

I've heard the same thing.

I think that's because European women seem to take a lot more pride in their appearance than most American women. They will take the time to groom themselves, wear makeup, put on a dress with heels and some nice jewelry.

A lot of the women in our country are unattractively overweight. However, for whatever reason that doesn't seem to stop them from wearing clothes they don't look good in, and have no business wearing. I have seen really fat women wearing halter tops and shorts with rolls of fat hanging out all over the place. A lot of them look as if they just rolled out of bed prior to appearing in public. Some of them look as if they don't own a hairbrush or a toothbrush. For sure, some of them must have never heard of soap or deodorant. And a lot of them don't even bother to put on any makeup or lipstick before leaving their houses.

Sad to think that 20 or 30 years ago, American women could have given European women a run for their money in regards to hygiene, grooming, and appearance. Not so anymore.

1. There are tons of attractive women in America. . .where have you been?

2. Why are the majority of Europeans in better health? I'd boil in down to two reasons: Better diet/Smaller portions and from what I've heard Europeans do ALOT of walking. Whereas an American's local grocery store, restaurant is generally no less than 6-7 miles from home thus having to drive to their destinations.

3. I believe that American's have a higher stress level/work level than Europeans, thus leaving non-sufficient time to relax.

Believe it or not, European women eat alot, but in healthy, small portions. They walk everywhere, walking keeps them in shape and looking good. They know how to take care of themselves, they stay away from fast foods, everything they eat is either straight from the farms, the ocean, or their own back yard.

Although they have massive transportation, they prefer to walk everywhere oppose to riding. They eat about three to four times a day, but like I said, in very small portions.

As Americans, we are naturally spoiled, we eat as much as we want, and if we gain weight, we get depressed, go on yo yo diets and do it all over again. We are not as health concious as the rest of the world. We pop the diet pills, drink the nasty, artifical diet shakes, and eat microwave low fat meals...Who do you think will be the healthiest?...It's a no brainer!

There are plenty of big lasses in Europe. Just not as many as there are in the US.

I was shocked when I came to the US (and secretly rather pleased, I counted as thin over in Florida). The portions are huge, and everything tasted really sweet - even the bread. No one needs powered sugar on their cooked breakfast for heavens sake.

Also it was obvious that no one ever walked anywhere - probably because in a lot of places there are no pavements.

Americans are fat and lazy. Americans like to eat at McDonalds, whereas Europeans appreciate fine cuisine. American restraunts' portion sizes are too big. When was the last time you had a full-course meal at a good restaurant and were able to finish everything? In other countries, portion sizes are smaller. They eat what is on their plate, they're no longer hungry, so they stop eating. Americans don't stop eating.

Are they really? Have you seen the women of Ally McBeal. Friends, Charmed, Baywatch, ( name any day time soap opera )? They are beautiful. There are of course beautiful women in Europe or anywhere on the globe, but I think the generalisation of the question is already an inaccuracy.

There are beautiful women everywhere. Americans may tend to be on the heavier side because unlike Europe our population isn't conentrated and therefore we have less sidewalks and incentive to use bicycles or our feet everyday.

because of the huge variety of junk/fast food available in the usa, laziness to prepare proper meals or time constraints from carreers. also may have something to do with all of the genetically altered stuff on sale in supermarkets. things are starting to go along those lines in europe also though, and even in asia.
