try an astringent

If you can't see a dermatologist or a doctor, try this ~ it's what has worked best for me without spending a lot. It's like a cheaper version of Proactiv. You need to buy:

1. a gentle cleanser (like Cetaphil or Spectro jel)
2. a good toner/astringent (like Clean & Clear)
3. a 2.5%-5% benzoyl peroxide cream (Spectro vanishing cream or Clean & Clear persa-gel 5) C&C 10 is available but that can seriously irritate your skin. Try to get something for "sensitive skin" to reduce the risk of allergies or irritation.
4. a gentle facial moisturizer (like Moisturel - it's important that the moisturizer you use isn't oily or heavy, it has to be for sensitive skin and quick absorbing and light)

When you've gone through the first 2 steps of cleansing your face and applying the toner, make sure your fingertips are clean and put a drop (size of a small pea) of the benzoyl cream and a drop of the moisturizer on your fingertip and mix together. Apply to your entire face and gently massage in. Do this everyday (once or twice) and you should see results in 2 weeks if not sooner. You may find that you get a few more minor pimples when you first start using it, but that's just the dormant ones coming to the surface. If you find your face gets too dry, try using bit more lotion than the benzoyl cream, OR apply more moisturizer afterwards. And if you have 1 or 2 really bad/big pimples put a separate dab of the benzoyl cream directly on them. Good luck!

since everyone has a different skin type- different things work for different people. alot of people will say proactive. i don't use that but what's worked for me is I wash my face with Clean and Clear facewash each morning, and then use a tinted benzoyle peroxide cream on my problem areas under my makeup (it also seems to help coverup go on better and last longer- it's by Clearisil I think). Use oil blotting sheets periodically throughout the day. Then at night I wash my face, use Clearisil face wipes, and then a regular benzoyl peroxide based cream (which are made by alot of companies take your pick). I use a non-oily moisturizing cream occasionally in the summer and every night in the winter.

However, the most effective thing is to see a dermatologist- they'll probably prescribe some type of antibiotics (but if that is what you do, make sure you take them as often as you're supposed to- if you forget the bacteria on your skin can build an immunity and the pills won't work anymore)

but no matter what you use- wash your face with warm water (it opens your pores so they don't get clogged as easily), and don't exfoliate too often- it irritates your pores so they swell and get smaller and clog easier.

I don't know whether you've tried seeing a dermatologist or not, but there is one thing you should try first. A lot of people get breakouts and think they should scrub their face as much as possible in order to get it nice and clean. The mistake is that they irritate their face and cause more breakouts. Face cloths can irritate your face, and they can also (if you don't use a brand new clean one each time) have bacteria. (I generally have no breakouts, but once in a while I decide I want to get my face extra clean and I'll lather it two or three times with Ivory soap - and I almost always get a breakout or two from that. Don't ask me why when I know this I still over-scrub every once in a while - but I do.)

I don't know if what I've said is old news for you or not, and I apologize if it is; but I know a lot of people who make the mistake of over-scrubbing and over-washing.

Once you have them the best way to get rid of them is to put on something that dries them.

if clearisyl (mispelled it) or stridex don't work then try steaming your face, popping the pimples and immediately putting rubbing alcohol on them. Get a little sun on your face (the rays sometimes clear up skin).

If you still have problems, you might be alergic to something you're eating, drinking, or wearing, or a soap you're using, or a pet. You might want to go to a dermatologist and have them give you the tests to see which product is causing problems for you.

i learned you gottaa have patients. i used to get all pissed cuz i expected it to happen over night. but you know give it like a week or 2 for drastic changes. i went to a dermatolagist and they recommended stuff that cost big money. so i stuck wit over the counter products and it worked. alrighttt the first thing i tried was Clearasil 3 Day. i really did see a difference in 3 days and got a lot of compliments on my skin. alsoo you can try Pro-activ. it doesnt cost a lot but dont expect it to be cheap ya knowww. but yeah that Clearasil stuff cost maybe like 7 bucks a bottle. cheap money but workss wicked good. so try that and if that doesnt work in like a week i say you try Proactiv. well good luck hun hope things clear uppppp. = p

maybe you're trying too much. pimples aren't always acne, they can be from sensitive skin (even if your skin isn't all that sensitive). try a mild face cleanser like clean and clear daily pore cleanser or neutrogena sensitive skin solutions and only wash twice a day maximum. i normally just wash when i take a shower.

also, be sure to stay consistent with whatever product you use. stay with it for at least a month before deciding that it doesn't work.

Good luck.

Could your skin be responding to stress in your life? I have skin problems that flare up right after a major life change--like switching from being a student to working. Even if the stress is "good" stress, it can affect your body and your skin. Maybe if you have just started something new (school/work/etc), your skin will get better as you adjust.

Sometimes bad cases of acne don't go away no matter what products you use. This is because they come from inside, either hormonal or bacterial.

You should go to a doctor and ask for either BC pills or Accutane or some other treatments like this.

Good luck...

I am now a believer in ProActiv. Within 2 weeks I was cleared up and within a month my skin had a soft, new texture that I never had before. I should get some infomercial kickbacks - you think?

Proativ really worked for me. Your acne may get worse at the very beginning, but keep it up because it does get much, much better once the products get the bacteria out of your skin. Good luck!
