Opinions are not true. I hate when people tell me I look ugly, & that it's true. Not only that situation, but in general, people state opinions & demand that it be true. Is this ignorance? & why do I have 2 be judged & punished as a result of other people's opinions? Ex. A person may hinder me from trying new things because they feel like I don't know what I'm doing, but I do know what I'm doing.

Narrow-mindedness is another word for what you describe. I thought of two possible reasons for people being this way. First, perhaps it's because they are simplistic people that just cannot handle more than one idea. Once they have accepted a certain point of view and state it as their own, they are rigid and unyielding and refuse to budge from their opinion. Or my second idea is that it may be they are just insecure people and try to hide their insecurity by SOUNDING as though they know what they're doing. To admit they're wrong or that their point of view may not be valid would be to show their fallibility.

It is caused from lack of knowledge, lack of experience, lack of education. In order to find people with broader views, you will probably have to travel further than 100 mi from your home (maybe just by internet you can go thousands of miles).
It is enlightening to discover what Buddhists believe and how the music of India is so different than that of the USA. Most American children have never heard an opera or seen a Broadway Show. Even if you go to college, information will be limited because college professors earn so little money that the smartest ones do something other than teach.
Opinions are NOT fact. YahooAnswers is full of opinions, including mine, but I try to keep an open mind. I'm glad you do, too. As for people hindering your quests .... that is known as control. People usually try to control other people because of fear.

They are jerks, plain and simple, don't let them get to you, these are the type of people who have issues of their own more then likely and as they say misery loves company. I know it can hurt, but just step back and tell them the truth right back, say somethin like do you feel better and if they say yes say thats really sad, or somethin else b*tchy, lol, works for me, or you could take the high road, whatever works for you, just remember what you said, its just their opinion.

Because they beleive their opinion is the only one that matters and they beleive they are always right about everything. They are full of themselves Always beleive in yourself. no matter what some one else thinks. You know you the best!

they are just sheep who believe that everybody has to look one way and be an exact replica of eachother. screw them. if anyone is ugly it is them.
