Could be a couple of reasons that the water keeps running. Remove the tank lid and see if the water is going over into the overflow tube. You may need to adjust the water level to prevent this from happening. The fill valve may have a worn washer and will not shut off all the way which could cause it to go over the overflow. Or the flapper valve may need to be adjusted or replaced. One good way to find out if the problem is the fill valve or flapper is to turn off the water going into the tank. Look to see where the water level is inside the tank. Wait a few hours and see if the water lever has dropped. If it has, then change the flapper. If it has not dropped, then the problem is the fill valve. You can change the washer if you can find one or replace the valve. Good luck!

It's an easy fix. Your flapper is probably bad and all you have to do is get a new one at home depot or some hardware store, drain the tank (after you turn the water off), then take out the old flapper and put the new one in. The flapper is the thing that covers the hole to hold the water in the tank until flushed. It has a chain on it that is hooked to the flush handle. If it isn't the flapper then it's the ballcock. You buy it at the same place and replace it the same way. Good luck

The flapper is not siiting correctly over the hole. You may be able to repostion the flapper to stop the water flow. This problem can be caused by a kinked chain or by mineral deposits building up. If it is due to mineral build up there are various products you can put in the tank to remove the mineral buildup. I would suggest changing the flapper and buying a product to clean the tank available in most supermarkets.

Make sure the flapper is down. it is the black rubber thing on the bottom of the tank in back. a lot of times the chain that is hooked between it and the handle has a kink in it. pour a splash of bleach on all the moving parts to clean them.

The Flapper either needs an adjustment or it needs to be replaced.
