I took two pregnancy tests and they both came up positive, but then I took another one and it came up negative. I also heard that it is not possible to have a false positive, Can someone please help me?

Pregnancy test work using an indicator for a hormone called Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (or HCG). For a test to be positive there must be HCG present in the urine. HCG is only present in the body if there is a fertilised egg in there.

2 positive test would indicate with a high degree of certainty that your egg was fertilised, but a third test being negative could be for a number of reasons. It is possible to have a false negative, either due to a faulty test or low levels of HCG in your urine at that time of day. Another possibility is that he pregnancy has not progressed and you may miscarry.

The best thing to so is get a doctor's appointment (which you should do anyway as soon as you think you are pregnant). Tell him you had 2 positive and 1 negative tests and ask him for a blood test which will tell you with better certainty how things are progressing.

Good Luck.

There are usually only 2 reasons for a Fasle + on a home test. #1. If you are on a hormonal treatment that contains the HCG hormone, or #2. If you have a chemical pregnancy.

You CAN have a false positive, but the chance of having two seperate false positives are not nearly as likely.

It is rare to have a false positive and even more rare to have it happen twice.I would recommend getting a blood test to be sure. Some medications could possibly alter that result depending on the situation. good luck!

I believe it is extremely rare that a false positive is obtained - there's a good chance you are pregnant - see your Dr to confirm.
