You wanted the best, here it is:
D-LINK RANGEBOOSTER N 650 WIRELESS DRAFT 802.11N PCI ADAPTER 300MBPS which you can get at mwave.com:
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=3987885

LINKSYS WIRELESS-AG WRT55AG 802.11AG WIRELESS DUAL BAND BROADBAND ROUTER
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=1646627

What the D-link N650 is, is 3 108mbs adapters in one card.
How it works is, most wireless 54mbs routers support dual channels. The top speed for each channel is 54mbs.
The D-link N650 uses a total of 6 channels equaling up to 324mbs.

While N is still to be ratified it works very well as I have been using the Belkin Pre-N since shortly after Belkin came up with this newest upgrade in wireless capabilities. I easily get 108Mbps consistently from all computers on my network. It works great and I have a life time warranty on all parts. Do use the adapters which go with the Router though. Even though theoretically you can mix and match manufacturers, I have found more dropped connections and the need to reset the router when using mixed hardware. It is much more reliable to use the same manufacturer for both Router and Adapters.

I highly recommend the Belkin Pre-N Router and Adapters. Yes it costs a bit more, but then you get more, more speed, more reliability, more security, more technical assistance when needed, just more everything.

Good luck choosing which wireless system you wish to use for your own wireless network. Have a nice day.

Wireless N is theoretically the fastest but the standard has yet to be ratified by IEEE. The range is greater and faster than that of Wireless G (802.11g). I hear linksys already makes routers and cards for wireless N but I believe it to be in your best interest to get a wireless G card and wait until Wireless N becomes a standard instead of competing technologies.

in addition to TxVarmit's answer, you should stick with linksys or ORNiNOCO hardware
