It's legit; I'm a member. It's honestly nothing very special...I bought a shirt (which isn't very good quality, don't bother), but it isn't as if you get any real benefits by belonging.

If you want to join, and can afford it, the program is a legit one. Congrats on your invitation!

he is running an organization call nshss. they send mailings to high school students asking $60 if they want to join. they say if your gpa is over 3.5 whatever then you get a certificate from them for that plus use of their services. a long time ago it was calculated they had taken in over 20 million and they paid out only tens of thousands in services . i called them and asked what nobel himself is taking in salary and to show their books as to expenses sources of income etc. they wouldn't tell me. ////there is another legitimate organization with a similar or same name he is copying. he is a glorified beggar. he sets up paper organizations and asks for money. his organization is not authorized by the governing body for such charities. he went on the internet and asked to be sent a million dollars for his charity. the interviewer asked him why people should. he said because he will put their names on a plaque in washington dc "so their descendants can read it and be proud". he claims to be an environmental leader but what has he ever done to be that.? has he given the movement money, taken any personal risks, published anything thats ahead of its time.? he seems to give a lot of after dinner speeches. when one listens to them he is telling us things we already know. his speaking fee was listed at 15K. in one of his videos interviewing i believe some indian guru they talked about how important birth control was to prevent environmental damage. nobel has 4 children. in wisconsin he developed land in door county or was trying to. according to our milwaukee paper he would be destroying one of the few remaning whitefish breeding grounds. he is constantly using the nobel name but he is only distantly related//////in fact he lived across the street from me in milwaukee-can't remember which years. he was our "neighborhood environmentalist". i gave him a book written by professor ezra mishan the worlds first opponent of growth which describes the economic basis of the e movement . he told me he could not understand it. how can you advocate something you don't understand? he was so naive he thought the e problem was fixable long after mishan's book was published.////like many he associates with the rich , politicians, entertainer, the famous in general mostly to beg for their money i guess. he seems to be a hangar on and a phony . anyhow goggle his name, or nshss combined with scam or fraud and see what you get. glad you asked me about him.

I have never heard of it and I was an overachiever in high school. You could try emailing or leaving a voicemail for your guidance counselor, or just waiting because they shouldn't need an answer right away. To me it sounds like a scam. The name is too close to the National Honor Society.

I got one too, and it said that if you couldn't pay the fee, you can ask for a waiver. You fill out the application, don't check off the box, and include a letter of the details of your financial status. Also include a copy of your tax returns.... And write fee waiver request on the outside of the envelope... So I don't think it's that much of a scam!
Oh and about the "Who's Who..." I applied for it, but you didn't HAVE to buy the book and everything. I just joined so I can put it on my transcript for college. =)

I did a fairly quick Google search this morning and found a great link that might help you decide....

So you know, the Sun Times is one of two very large newspapers in the Chicago area. Hope this helps!

It won't impress many admissions officers, folks, because they know it's a "pay for it" scam. So , if you are thinking you'll write a check, join the "club" and somehow that get into Harvard, forget it!

DO NOT subscribe to the NSHSS!! i also received a letter in the mail from them and its a waste of time and money. thats all they want...ur money. even if u did subscribe, u hav no guarantee that u would get any scholarships b-c they "draw names out of a hat" and they wouldn't even be that much. and they said it gives u a lifetime membership for scholarships? come on! ur not going to be in college ur whole life! its safer to just apply to normal scholarships okayed by the gov't.
DO NOT TAKE THIS ROUTE. if u do, u will regret it!

I got the same thing and was about to ask the same question. I figure I'll join just to have something else to put on my applications. My personal opinion is, if you've got the money, and you get the invitations, go for it. It'll look good on applications, and maybe you'll get a scholarship or something like that.
