Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), 99% of the slurs that are spoken about people are not expressed face-to-face. The evil things that are said behind someone's back would never be said without benefit of anonymity.

Funny, but to a lot of YA'ers, this is an anonymous place. So out comes the "N"-word and every other imaginable trash-talk slur, so long as it doesn't get you thrown off by "the management".

The best way to deal with this in your personal life is to not participate...as a speaker or a listener. You'll lose a few friends, but do you really want folks like that as friends anyway?

I've lived in Alabama and Georgia (and I've only lived out of those states for 4 1/2 years now), and I wouldn't say that. To a person's face, or behind their back. It's disrespectful. And it's just asking to get your butt kicked.

Because they know it's not right!

I was taught never to utter the word. To my mom is was worse the the "f" word. My youngest brother is part black (different father) and he's been called that word while walking down the street from someone in a moving car once. The audacity!

What I think is funny is that if a white person says "N"r its a bad thing and ya'll get p.o.'d.... but if another black person says whaz up "N"a then its all right!!!! Same exact thing that the white person said just between ya'll blacks its a respect thing. Whatever!!! You are still calling each other a ***** or member of any dark-skinned people; a vulgar and offensive term. Yet ya'll call me a cracker and I can't do crap about it because then it would be a hate crime.

because coming from a white person it's considered derrogatory, even if that white person hangs out with mostly blacks....so those that use it in fact are being derrogatory and would try to be hurtful, such as passing in a car.......other than that there's also the probability of getting beaten up no matter what is meant by it.

I am a white person, and I was brought up never to say the "N" word, period. My parents taught me never to use any disparaging terms for anybody, and to treat all people with respect.

I never say the N word & never allow it said in my house! I throw a lot of parties & that's the quickest way for someone to get off my evite list!

P.S. I'm from a small town in Texas. So please don't assume all southerners are bigots.

I say it to their faces all the time. It is the only word with any power anymore. I could say I want to assrape a nun and no one would bat an eye, but if I say ****** it raises eyebrows. I like having that power to upset stupid people with the utterance of a single word.

Well let some white person come to you alone and say the "N" word to you then lets see what you do to him.
