How do these middle east countries fall prey to the crazies in the region? Are they that weak or stupidly short sighted? They will be re-living the past poverty over and over like groundhog day until they develop the ability to control and refute the crazies. What a pity.

Yeah, you've got it. It is sad. You can't force anything on the people of
Lebanon so I am not sure the culture that shapes them can change
fast enough to control the chaos. I don't think that they are stupid at all.
They are in another world and are not organized beyond their world of
subsistence living. Wish I knew the answer

Its a democracy in its infancy that had no support and always had a Syrian influence. Its a way for Syria to control more land and wealth without invading.
