does any know if you'll be able to see mars in the east because it is going to be closer to earth this week

Mars is trailing the sun closely right now. Check the western horizon at the ecliptic right after sunset.

probably. Mars is always quite distinguishable in the sky. However, an email has been circulating recently saying that Mars will be the closest to Earth that it's been in nearly 60,000 years on Aug 27th. This is misleading though, because it already happened on Aug 27 of 2003.
