What are the going rates for comic books in decent shape from the early 80's..these are Marvel.

It totally depends on the title the condition and the exact issue. I would do a quick ebay search for some of the Particular Titles and issue numbers. And then take some of them down to the local comic dealer. Most likely most of them are worth a quarter or less but you could have some special issues in the mix. If there are enough of them (more than 10 or so boxes) it might be worth buying a price guide at the dealers and going through them all

For them to have any worthwhile value, they'd either have to be extremely rare or in great shape.

If they're only in so-so shape, you'd have a hard time selling them to collectors. Some comic shops will buy them in bulk and sell them for about .25-$1 a pop, so don't expect a lot.
