i have a 1998 pontiac grand prix se with 3.1 v6 eng.i want to flush the radiator and coolant system. i'm using "gunk" brand super h.d. radiator cleaner part #C22-32, & following their mfg. guidelines and flushing proceedures.
i have gone underneath the vehicle, i have "drive on" ramps.i'm still not seeing the drain plug for the rediator coolant. do i need to remove the black air dam/rock shield to see it & access it? also: the owners book calls for gm "dex-cool" the extended life anti-freeze, can i mix that with water 50/50? or do i need to put only the straight dex-cool coolant back into the system once it's flushed?
thanks auto novice from texas.

It is on the bottom corner of the radiator on the driver side .I just looked at my repair program to make sure .Also 50 / 50 . You should be able to get to the drain from above

It is on the bottom on the left side, or drivers side. Do not mix over the 50/50 solution, and remember that when you fill it back up at crank the engine the level will go down some in the radiator. If you fill it at first then put the cap on and think your done when you start it, well your not. Let it run a few minutes and then shut off and check level again, the thermostate will need to open to make the level go down. Fill it again if it is low and run again, shut off and check again, if still low it should hold about a cup full. You have to remember though that you will have some trapped air inside so you won't get back in what you took out, you will need to bleed it off, look for the bleedoff screw on you cooling system line. Best bet though is to take it to a quallified mechanic.

I would be careful about using a flush, probably not necessary if you don't have oil in your coolant.
Yes, mix the DEX-COOL 50/50 with water. Do NOT mix the coolant with another type, and don't mix it rich. 50/50 is good, and what the car was designed for.

Doesnt look as though a drain plug to me. i might wager that the tanks on the radiator are plastic and there might desire to be a valve with a plastic handle somewheres on the backside of the tank. To my wisdom radiators have continuously used valves and not plugs to empty the radiator. much less possibility of having scalded in case you have a valve which would be opened progressively.
