I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota that I do all my own work on. I have never repaired/replaced the suspension before, but it is way past time. I dont know what info will be needed but it's a V6. I am not very mechanical, but replaced the rack&pinion myself.

Alignment was done by a very reputable ASE Certified tech in a very reputable shop after I replaced the steering (the Rack and Pinion gear, and both tie rod ends) just 3 months ago. I guess when I said that I wasn't very mechanical I should have rather said that my terminology is not very mechanical, but I have done all my own work on all my vehicles since my divorce 10 yrs ago, including a head-gasket job on my previous car (my brother who bought it from me says its still running fine 3 yrs later). I just want an idea of what is involved before I do this.

I would recommend taking it to the shop . I do this every day and I still don't like to see suspensoin work come in . Its not real hard but its somthing that is a real safty issue to you and every one else on the road take it to a pro .

What makes you think you need to REPAIR your suspension?
How many miles do you have? How has it been driven?
MOST LIKELY all you might need is possibly an alignment.
MY SUGGESTION here is that you take it to a reputable alignment shop, ask them for their assessment. BUT the operative term here is REPUTABLE.
If you plan on the alignment, it is not something you can do yourself without some pretty sophisticated shop equipment.
