most of us do it just to pass the time.. and at the same time you get to know something if both the questioner and answerers are serious .and also to get help from ppl around the world, like my computer is something wrong, bluh bluh, and some experts DO answer for you.. So i don't think it's a total waste after all..

theres 2 answers to that.
number one, asking a question can help u gain an answer to something u really need to know. answering a question can help other people and u feel satisfied that u helped someone

number two. u lose 5 points when asking a question but gain 2 when u answer a question. if your answer is choosen a best answer, u recieve 10 points. as u get more points u go up a level.

For asking questions you gain nothing. You actually lose five points.You gat three back if you chose a best answer. But, when you answer a question, you gain 2 points and 10 extra if it was chosen as a best answer. Hope this helps!

I gain a certain amount of knowledge from some of the answers and I also get great satisfaction knowing I can help other people with valid problems.

for asking -5 points for answering +2 points best answer 10 points the more points you have the more questions you can answer and on and on and on.and they'll tell 2 friends and so on and so on and so on.

Different perspectives and although you do get alot of really stupid answers you get some really good ones that you would not from anywhere else,with such ease.
Someone has already done it, did it .so they can offer you their valuable knowledge through experience.

Watch "Whose Line is it anyway" on ABC. The reward they get for the points on that show are exactly what we get here.
