Queen was very popular in the US. Many thought Freddy was a genius. I personally liked Queen a lot.

Very. At least as popular as The Doors, or Boston, and Bohemian Rhapsody is still often near the top on Best Song Ever lists.

Are you asking from outside the US? I believe Queen had "Superstar" status here in the states. I know i loved em' early on in the 70's and stuff , however they kind of lost me with that "Radio ga-ga" stuff. Yeah , they had a pretty good following here.
