It's mostly a sensitivity thing. Rabbits have really sensitive eyes, so "testers" will poke the makeup into the rabbit's eyes to see if it irritates the surface. If not, it is deemed "hypoallergenic", or something like it. Can you see why animal testing has been pretty much banned?

They apply some of the ingredients that are going to be used in the product to the animal. This isn't done very much anymore since most people don't want to buy products tested on animals, and groups forced manufacturers to stop the trend.
I always wondered, how come any testing is needed after you find a large group of ingredients that work really well, and have no adverse effects.

Usually by putting it into their eyes to see if it causes a reaction. This practices is waning as there are better techniques, and consumers of make up are often opposed to animal testing.

i think that they shave the animal bold and then put there sample make-up on it to see if it is okay for humans... but in the end the people really dont care about the animal, whether it lives....or it dies.
