16-year-old here,
Very true. I take pride in being myself but freaked that I still look older, naturally I guess. However, my teen buddies are just not getting the word 'simplicity' to their heads. It's worst now from a few years ago. When I was in grade 7, it was all right - so to speak. But now (going on to Gr.11 this Sept) I see these elementary kids wearing extra (I mean EXTRA) tight clothes. Anything called relax, and breath? Or too short. And too revealing.
I think, they're too mature looking for their age. And majority of those wannabees are less educated then should be. I irked because I find it essential to flog down a dead horse so to speak. I take personal experience there considering I've lost many fellow class-friends due to this dilemma. As I've stood out as a good student and friend. Trying to make proud a few who have a positive influence on my life - is my goal. So it hurts to see my so-called-friends ruin their lives for a bit fun. Fun, where fun? I've seen these teens involved in drugs, more then making out - eh-hem - I'll avoid that. Failing grades, trouble with parents who (okay, I have no right to judge)... then getting pregnant, doing overdose with Advil and ending up in the hospital. Being abused. Hurting themselves with knives. Carrying weapons. Engaging in illegal acts and mouthing at Police Officers (who I respect with all my heart).
And to the point that evidently disturbs parents, looking too much older then should be... I've never bothered to ask a teen why they do that. It's p-r-e-t-t-y dangerous. Kidnapping, abuse, beaten comes to mind.
I think at this age, they should live to study, study and have fun. I get my kicks in hanging-out with my best friend at stores. She also helps me with my work, 16 or what, a little job to fill our pockets should never hurt. Also take interest in Law Enforcement and EMS for fun. Art and writing comes naturally. They should dedicate their time to be industrious, steadfast in their task. Education is important. Something I've learned from someone who goes out of her way with kindness is: You're here for a reason, just like everyone else. And God doesn't put something in front of you that he doesn't - mean - to be there. He never gives you more then you can handle. And that is the beauty of it! - I have a Hero. Who is a stranger. But I still want to make him proud of me. And try my best to be that someone he says he's proud to save - A Paramedic, I'm more then proud of.
Having said all that, sometimes, us teens need someone to talk to. A stranger is better. A Hero. Not best friend, someone who will listen and only listen but also give advice. Give them time parents. Listen to them once a week. Don't talk and hear them out. Tell them to trust you or write you a letter. Not just expect them to be good but let them do it their own way. Okay, *sigh* if my parents ever did these instead of expecting me to be good then I'd probably would've accomplished my dreams by now. So parents, what do you think?
- Ahhh, good greif, my fingers are killing me! I'm never answering with such typing involved again. Oh I need ice-cream, sorry, ice :)
Hmm, warm regards!
- Maryam (hidden4eternity)

yeah, i agree. i think one of the reasons for this is because actors/actresses who are older, say 30 something, are portraying people who are in their 20's. this makes actual 20 yrs olds look younger because the actors are older. and also some kids just don't act, or dress, their age.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Parents aren't watching what their kids are wearing these days since kids that are not even teens are wearing revealing clothing and makeup. Are we pushing our kids to grow up this soon? I think we should monitor our kids a little better.

Yes! Kids are aging much faster. Girls and boys are going through puberty much earlier nowadays. Girls mature faster than boys, and some girls look like 12 going on 27.

Nah, I can tell the approximate age. I was one of those that probably grew up too fast, so I can pick them out...
