If I had the transmission filter changed would that help w/ my 89 lincoln town car. It keeps taking a while for it to get into gear (drive). It will still go but the engine winds up and about 30 seconds it will kick into gear. What do I need to do to fix this. I've heard that if the trans filter is the original (and I think it is) then that might be the problem. Any advice will help. Thanx to all

I agree with deltech, if it is slipping already, then the damage is already done. Changing the filter may help to prolong your use of the vehicle until the tranny fails. Change the filter and then begin looking for another transmission. Good luck !
