First, anyone telling a patient that her Endo can be "cured" by pregnancy is a.) practicing medicine like it was the 1800s, b.) outright lying, or c.) both. There is NO cure for Endometriosis, including hysterectomy.

Secondly, while Endo is the leading cause of primary and secondary female infertility, there is no reason to assume that with *proper* treatment, you cannot conceive. Studies show that surgical removal (such as through excision - www.centerforendo.com – patients travel there from around the world) can and does increase fertility, even in stage III and IV patients. Careful and meticulous excision surgery can not only help resolve symptoms for the long-term, but can also drastically improve infertility. The aforementioned Center has a better than 50% success rate in their stage 4 Endo-related infertility patients, and 75% in their stage III patients, after Endo has been treated and removed (phenomenal, considering that rates for ablation, vaporization, etc. are far lower). Careful excision and removal of Endo can treat the infertility instead of just going through all the expensive protocols without even trying to remove the disease.

As far as vaporization, ablation, and other superficial surgical removals like that you described in your post, the rates for recurrence are nearly 90% within the first 3 years. The disease is still be present and will go on and cause symptoms, including infertility.

Drug therapy like Lupron has never been shown to reduce infertility, and while alternative/homeopathic therapies can be helpful for some women in alleviating some of the painful symptoms associated with the disease, there have not been any evidence-based studies detailing any positive impact of herbal therapies, etc. on fertility rates either.

Your best bet is to seek the assistance of a true specialist who can meticulously remove the disease, thereby conferring the best possible benefits for pregnancy. A specialist will also be better suited to help you should IVF protocols become necessary down the road as well. Good luck and best wishes.

Don't give up just yet. I'm sure it's unbelievably frustrating for you both. A woman I used to work with had that surgery done, and she wasn't getting pregnant. They put her on steroids, she was taking her temperature-you know the drill. Anyway, they finally got so frustrated that they went to an ob/gyn who specialized in fertility problems. As it turned out, her husband also was having some issues and he had never been tested! After he was "fixed", she was pregnant in two months, even with some endometriosis issues. The moral of this story: get a second opinion from a specialist.

I hope you get a lovely little baby soon!

You may need to go on some fertility treatments. You can start with the rhythm and temperature methods and work your way up. I agree, if you want a child, you best get it done soon, before your fiancee is in too much pain. If there are too many cysts, that may cause a problem with a pregnancy. You should really take a trip back to her ob/gyn for more advice. I'll pray for you two, good luck.

I am not a doctor, but I do know people who have had children after having ovarian cysts removed. I wish you the best and good luck!

This would be best handled by a doc. Yes, you can still have kids, it will just take longer. I had some problems similar to this after having two kids and it took 5 years...FIVE YEARS for our third and final child to come into being. Be patient, but talk to a doc. I hope if she cannot have any children that it will not deter you from still wanting to marry her.

She may have to have more surgery to have the additional cysts removed. Has she been diagnosed as having PCOS (polycystic Ovary Syndrome)? If so she may have to be put on Metformin in order to become pregnant.

I've never had it, but a friend of mine did. She was told that it would be hard, if not totally impossible for her to ever get pregnant. She was pregnant less than a year later. You might try getting a second opinion, plus, you might want to have your sperm tested.
