Not Poison or other glam bands, thats not heavy metal; those are cross dressing fruit loops. Im talking Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Accept, etc.

You know that Iron Maiden and AC/DC were the premiere bands of the 1980s.

Metallica!!! They really pushed the limits to heavy metal further. They were a mix of punk and metal. Which is partially where they got their speed from. Also from black metal band Venom and Angel Witch. But, they were a band that at the time it was glam ****. They definitly helped destroy it. But, also when thrash was getting bigger, metallica had the balls to do what they wanted. Fans thought it was like a sin that metallica chose to write fade to black. And when they put an acoustic, almost classical sounding intro on Fight Fire With Fire people got pissed. But, Metallica didn't surrender to the fans. They did what they wanted. Look how it turned out. Cliff Burton is one of the greatest bass players to walk the earth. Not just his ability to play very fast with his fingers, but also his creativeness. He was well musically educated. They have the "we do what we want and we dont care what happens" attitude which is a good attitude to have most of the time. especially with music. if you start contributing to a trend you hate, then you know you're losing your edge. Thats not only my favorite band of the 80's, but my favorite band of all time. I dont care what anyone thinks or says about them. You won't change my mind.

Megadeth.

No Dave Mustaine, no speed metal. (Dave was Metallica's first guitarist and lead them to their original sound. Dave was kicked out of the band for drugs and drinking and later formed Megadeth)
