Well let's see, thorought my entire life, i've had an uncontrollable nervousness and akwardness around big crowds, or before going to a big event, hell even small events like practice for the random sports i play. I'll try to describe it. I feel sick to my stomach, my head starts to spin, i can't talk or breathe correctly, i shake, can't sleep, can't eat, can't focus..it goes on and on. Anyway I have EXTREME nervousness before football practice, especially. And i need help, and i have no time or way to see a doctor about it. Any ideas for controlling it?

You can either burn off your excess energy by exerting yourself (jog, do push-ups, etc.) or learn to calm yourself by doing deep breathing exercises.

It may help you in other areas of your life to find inner calm by learning to meditate and using relaxation techniques.

It sounds like you have simple anxiety disorder. This is something that I have dealt with my entire life.

A couple doctors have prescribed Xanax to me over the years - and it is GREAT for taking the edge off. Unfortunately, it is a controlled substance and getting your prescriptions refilled can be inconvenient since you have to go to the doc each time you need a refill (depending on state law... and your doctor).

Also, Xanax is addictive, so you have to have a lot of self-control to take it for any length of time without running into an addiction problem. This is also something I have dealt with in my life.

So, does Xanax help? Absolutely... it absolutely CURES the problem, but not coping with the medicine correctly can cause worse problems than the anxiety. You might think about seeing a doctor and see if he can prescribe you a low dose to see how it works for YOU.

If you are young, though, don't fret! In my case, and other cases of people I know, the problem slowly gets better - and sometimes goes away completely - as you get older.

If you can't see a doctor, try talking to a close friend or an adult you trust. If you really feel that you can't talk about it, before you leave the house, just sit down for a second and take a few deep breaths. Remind yourself that you are capable and have done this before (you must be okay, you made the team, didn't you?). However, if you really cannot control your fear, then you must see a doctor about your condition. Anxiety like this, if left untreated, has the potential to get worse and could socially cripple you later in life. Good luck.

I am 59 years old & have had all of the same problems since I was a little kid. I hated school in fear of being called to stand up in front of everyone else. I will tell you what I have done to help but you may not like or agree but here it is. I have tried drugs, lots of them, not the answer, I'm worse when they wear off. I have gone to counseling year after year & got sick & tired of trying to figure out "WHY" am I like this. I turned to prayer & can get through what I just have to do. But I stay away from many things & miss some fun times. You have to think back that something happened to you as a kid that caused this. I know what made me like this.
If you can try & talk to someone & don't live your life as I have.

Unfortunately, your symptoms are intense, so the only solution is to see a doctor.

Besides seeing a doctor:
1) Why ar you nervous? meaning...what are you nervous about?
2) Do you believe that you can perform to the best of your abilities in the sport you are participating?
3) Talking to your team mates can help. They can "Shield" you verbally from any nervousness, by boosting your confidence.
4) Be aware that 80 to 90% of people are nervous when it comes to public activities, etc. but once they are at the venue, they have different ways to distract themselves from what is causing them nervousness.

PLEASE--don't listen to people who advocate internet drugs, illegal substances or booze.
You MUST find time to see a doctor. If you're still in school, didn't you have to have a physical before you were cleared to play football?
I AM NOT a medical doctor, but I do suffer from diagnosed anxiety due to a couple heart attacks at a very young age. I was afraid to walk around the block - I thought I'd drop dead.
What you describe sounds like a much worse version of what I had(have). It should be able to be controlled, or at least made better, by counseling and/or medication.
NO EXCUSES ABOUT SEEING A DOCTOR!! MAKE TIME!! If you're in High School - they're there on call. If you're in College - go to the Health Clinic. If you don't have much money - go to your neighborhood health clinic. PLEASE!! You'll wind up killing yourself - seriously - the stress on your body will kill you (I didn't mean you'd do it deliberately.)
If you're playing organized football - do you think your coaches haven't noticed this? Shame on them for not referring you to someone - and following up to make sure you went. They CANNOT punish you for asking for time to see a doctor - nor can an employer.
Think of all the people who love you and depend on you.
Please, please, please do this. And think of a way to let me know you did. People DO care about you!!

Although you don't want to see a doctor about it you may need to. It sounds to me as though you may have Social Anxiety Disorder, or even Panic Attacks. There are drugs that the doc. can give you to help you with these problems. But some alternatives that I can think of would be for you to practice meditation to help calm your nerves, or deep breathing exercises.

Good luck with this. I hope you feel better soon! :)

It sounds significant. I used to become extremely anxious - probably similar to what you have... Consider what is REALLY the worst that could happen.... I mean the ultimate worst.... usually once that question is asked enough and you can weigh your nervousness against the chance of THAT occuring... the nervousness can dissipate. Good luck.

ur not the only one who gets nervous. maybe ur just extremely shy. nothing wrong with it, nothing to be embarrassed about. i think this nervous is great because it shows that you have a lot of energy in you.
u shouldnt try to control it but rather more channel it into something else. its great to have extreme nervous during football practice so you can use that energy to run or whatever u football people do.
or maybe u just dont like football then u should quit.

i can't tell u to stop being nervous. if i tell u to stop thinking of pink and purple elephants with tutus whats the first thing u think of?
sounds more like u have stress..stress is good. its called eustress and once u accept that it is good..u can control it and channel it to something more productive. maybe stop playing sports and do a more solitary thing like playing piano or something:D

to be honest I think (I am not a doctor but) you have a accual problem that might need a doctor to fix try not thinking about the game and just do it in the end of the day what happens wont matter that much.
