That's strange! Maybe you have some hacks creating a conflict?

If they are going to school okay and everything else seems normal and if they get after school jobs and have the usual perks of private school students then maybe clothes is the only thing affected. Someone may have created a hack so kids could go to private school in normal clothes? (people make hacks all the time) If you've downloaded any houses or any game modifiers then that could be the source of unintentional conflict.

If you play other lots, does the same thing happen? If not, then sometimes only one lot will have a glitch and cause strange game behavior. Moving them out to a fresh lot might help, unless there is a hack you have to get rid of.

DJS has a hack scanner:

There's also a Clean installer, which screens your installs if you download any Sims2 stuff.

Because kids, be them real or computer generated won't do what you want them to do.
