I've been watching the Raiders-Eagles game and see a lot more marks than ever before.

I know the 10 yard lines and the five yard lines and one hash mark on each side of the field 1 yard apart. But all the others ?????? ???????????

Well, that is the wrong game to watch to try to tell you what all those lines are. The Hall of Fame Game you are watching from Canton, Ohio. The field is used by high school, college, and professional football players. The lines you are seeing are different for each level of play. They have to deal with the formations aloud on the field that the offense is allowed to do within the lines (called the box). Try watching any other game, and ask someone knowledgeable in football and they can tell you what the lines are. This field is differently not the one to learn on. It's probably the only field that the NFL will play on this season that will look like this field in Ohio....

In college the hash marks are about 8 yards wider than they are in the NFL, and since college teams use that field they have different sets of lines to acclimate for both pro and college teams as well as high school football.

All the marks on the field are because they had other games being played on that field. They were younger players , where they
need to see every yard marked.

no problem

the hashmarks in the middle of the field thats run like this:

- - inside these lines, is the QB's pocket or his
- - area where he sits until the ball is ready, he takes
- - his drop steps etc, also the intentional grounding
- - rule takes place in this pocket

also field goal kickers line the ball up along these lines
so they can have the same marking from game to game
