that's why McD's makes so much money....plus, that's how they have always been....which isn't a bad thing, cuz if you look at what portion sizes actually should be and then you look at the sizes of other burgers....it's downright ridiculous!

Because back in the 1950's when McDonald's started, they had two big things going for them. One was that people were used to dining at places where the food had to be cooked after you ordered it, so you had to wait about a long time to get your order. McDonald's was the first to be able to hand your food to you in seconds - they basically invented "fast food". The second was that they were cheap. When they first opened, their hamburgers only cost 15 cents and their french fries were only a dime. The low prices are what brought people in. In order to sell a burger for 15 cents, it had to be pretty small. Over the years, McDonald's added larger burgers, of course, like the Big Mac, but they didn't want to stop serving those original small burgers which had been the source of their success. So they keep them on the menu.

I think it's probably to keep prices down. I think they are about the same size as Burger King roughly. . .no idea about Whataburger, but I'm guessing it comes down to price.

do you know how unhealthy hamburgers from fast food joints are? they have very little nutrition....get a steak or something if you want meat...but not some fatty piece of ground up meat (who knows what part of the cow you are eating when you get a hamburger)

They are smaller and will continue to be smaller while people continue to buy them, or until the company marketers predict a change in customer preferences..
