I've always wondered if they were really real. I mean has anyone of you reading this have had an imaginary friend when you were young? Or at least have you known someone who has?

I always see they're mentioned in many movies and wondered if it were true?

Any thoughts?

Ok have you seen Beautiful Mind for example? I mean like that, really real. Russel Crow did though, I wish I could have a friend like that...

All my growing up years I thought it was God and I grew up and discovered GOD was imaginary. Why do people do that to children. First it's Santa then a God.

If you believed you had a friend even if you were the only one who could see and hear that friend , it would be real to you and not imaginary, at least not to you, only to those who believed that you were imagining something that wasn't real. Anyway, I have had my same two since babyhood (so I was told) and still do, they are always around but I only have contact with them in times of need, I think of them as my guardians and my friends.

In a sense, anyone who writes stories has imaginary friends- the characters that they invent for their stories. I occasionally have imaginary friends, but they're all based on characters for stories that I plan to write someday. I can't really see them, but it feels as if they're there sometimes. I've even had conversations with them.

Yeah, I used to have an imaginary friend. I used to wonder if it was really the spirit of my brother...my mom had a miscarriage before me. Not sure if I believe that now though.

I've had an imaginary friend all of my life. I've tried to find reason for it through religion, nope. Tried to find reason for it through science (psychologist), nope again. I don't know who or what it is. It doesn't do my typing or my cleaning or anything like that. I can't really explain it. But, I've been told that I'm weird so maybe it's just my psychy talking back to me, you know, me myself and I thing.

never had one when I was little, but I did have one, briefly, when I was 15, and I do have one now, occasionally (I'm 20). They feel real, although you can't see them. It's a mental construct created by your brain, during times when you really truly need a friend. Oh, the power of the human brain!

When I was little all my friends had imaginary friends. I didn't have one but I didn't want to be left out so I pretended that I had one.
