Relax, lots of diabetics are having babies now, even Type 1 diabetics who have been insulin dependent since childhood.
Problem is pregnancy messes with your ability to process glucose, and your metabolism. Also lots of women eat differently (usually a lot more!) when they are pregnant. Lots of women get gestational diabetes in pregnancy and while it goes away later after delivery, some of those women will go on to become diabetic later in life.
Having diabetes during pregnancy, even if you need insulin, does not mean you need to be put in the hospital. Follow your doctor's advice and try not to worry.

I have been diabetic TYPE 2 for over 5 years. stupid me, always figured i was never going to have children of my own.. adopted 3 in 3 years. anyways.. I did get pregnant 13 weeks at this time. I was on glucophage which obgyn increased to 750 twice a day from 500. my sugar was still not that great. I was eating once a day. now i am on a gestational diabetes diet.. *which for me sucks.. but I am on insulin now instead of glucophage. I was taught by a nurse at the high risk clinic, i refused the insulin for 4 days. Then, i had a scare, they couldnt find the heart beat. When i seen the ultrasound, of my baby...and the little heart beating and he/she just a swimming.... how selfish i was.. to almost give up the chance to bring this baby into our lives. Insulin and eating habits, have changed, and now that i got a hang of it.. took 3 days... i now know when i have to eat, and what to eat.. and sugar is better. ps.. the needles are so thin literally .. i would rather give myself with them.. then poke my finger. for the glucometer.. big hugs and best wishes feel free to email me diamon2984@aol.com

Ok I didn't have type 2 diabetes but with my last pregnancy I end up having gestational diabetes again. I ended up on insulin they didn't put me in the hospital all I had to do is go in office and learn how to do the shots. Of course I also had to call my suguar level in twice a week also. But I had to do that with my first and I wasn't on insulin. I was told I would have little more flexiblity with the insulin but we really couldn't get my number stable enough to have to much control.

You will need to up your insulin since you are pregnant. You don't have to be put in the hospital. If it's best for you to give yourself a shot every day and it won't hurt the baby, then you should do it. Good Luck.

The best thing to do is to ask a doctor because some people may not give you the right information for your case here, so just ask your doctor.
