Sell the lincoln and never buy another lincoln product. They are a money pit. The only way to fix that problem is to take it to a shop and have them replace the airbags. The suspension in the continental is poorly designed. It's a nightmare. You can have it fixed, but in two more years. I guarantee it will happen again.

I freind of mine had a similar problem 900 miles from home. $1800 repair on a common problem. (At the dealer) If it was mine I'd crawl underneath and look for a burnt/melted air hose.

Oh, and how do you know the smoke was from the catalyc converter? It's in the center/middle of the car. The smoke was probably burning rubber touching the exhaust system at some point. Again, get under it and look. You may be able to replace a hose or rubber part yourself.

You blew an air line running from the compressor under the hood, to the four air struts.
