He went to the Red Sox w/ cash for a player to be named later (most likely either OF Adam Stern or P Abe Alvarez).

He is going to be playing a lot for the Red Sox as starting catcher Jason Varitek has a knee injury requiring surgery and backup catcher Doug Mirabelli is banged up.

The Red Sox are giving Baltimore a prospect to be named later, but most importantly they are picking up the rest of Lopez's salary because he was recieved from waivers the day after the trade deadline closed. Boston was in need of a good catcher with Varitek sidelined with knee surgery, and Javy wanted to be on a winning team.

That is correct. He went from a losing team to a team that might win the World Series.
