There are many definitions, several explanations, and plenty of ideas about war. From Thomas Hobbes, politician and philosopher, the war caused by the "State of Nature".
State of nature is the state before any government is created. In the state of nature, human beings are selfish and fight each other for scarce resources. So human nature and natural state is a war of all against all. But human beings are rational and they make a contract to delegate the power to distribute scarce resources to one super entity "Leviathan", the State.
Human nature is selfish and anarchic, which explains the tendency of men to be in conflict and to cause war.
But from Margaret Mead, war is an innovation made by the men. Through the observation of many cultures and populations, Mead concluded that war is an invention from men, because in some societies war doesn't exist. War is only meant to bring glory and women to young men.

Their is war because religions hate other religions and want to exterminate them and people want what other people have and if they don't get they fight over it. example: oil
