is having a birthday party for her 1 yr old son. My ex is not his dad. My ex and I share 2 children, and I am getting married soon. We have been invited to the party, is it rude if we only send the children, as the new girlfriend really does not like me, and feels very threatned by me and I don;t want to put a damper on her sons first birthday.

I will say let their dad pick them up buy a nice gift for her 1-year-old, and let the kids enjoy themselves. You were invited because it's the right thing to do, but everybody involved knows that if you go this is going to be an uncomfortable situation even if she was not threatened by you. What is going to determine a great out come is the gift you give. If you have to drop them off then you should make it your business to go in speak be humble and give the gift directly to her, and leave even if that's not how you feel. I have this one rule for myself about my kids and that is I will never show ill will to someone who will possibly have a one on one with my kids without me being there.

Birthday parties for 1-year-olds are really for the adults and not the children. If your ex wants to take the children, then let him, but you do not need to go if you don't want to. Just politely decline the invitation (she'll probably be relieved). Don't send the children without either of you, however, as that would be like looking for free babysitting. One of you needs to be there to supervise them or they should stay home too.

That is so considerate of you. Just make arrangements so your ex takes care of them during the activity.
