Well, first they have to make as much money as they can in theatres, and not only here in the states, but around the world. Then they start releasing them by geographic zones, so they can avoid piracy. It's a process... then it's the same until they go on cable and then to local TV.

It doesn't take long. they do it on purpose to make more money. if a good movie came out in theaters, but then they released it into dvd, then alot of people wouldn't go see in in the theater for 10$ a person as opposed to 5$ rental from blockbuster for the entire family, and the company would lose millions.

A movie usually comes out on DVD after it has been in the theater both in the US and other countries.They get all they can from the theaters before they release it.

The better the movie the longer it takes to get to DVD as for crappy movies it takes them a much shorter time to get to DVD.

Some movies go there rather quickly and some of them are really good movies.

It is an American thing. They want to milk the market dry before it goes to video.

it takes alot of time for comentary, special features, deleted scenes, trailers, previews, and outtakes
