I'll give it an educated guess, maybe leaning a little on the pessimistic side: since I've been on YAHOO! Answers to long. If the world is representative of the population of this site:
I'm going to guess that we are going to be taken out by waves of misfortune, Brought on by our own ignorance.
The first wave will probably be a virus, such as the bird flu. That will knock out a good portion of us, since there will be no vaccine for the majority of us: 2008.
A close second might be drought and famine, caused by erratic weather throughout the world, caused by global warming: 2010.
The next wave will probably be a nuclear blast. That should get quite a bit of us too, since few of as have fallout shelters: 2012.
The next wave might be in the form of persecution, when things get rough, those in power, the Majority, find ways to exterminate, those with less power, the minorities. They then divide up the goodies amongst themselves. I know it sound barbaric, but we're talking about humans after all: 2014.
By this time we should be experiencing run-a-way global warming, since we failed to curb it, when we had a chance. From here on out it should be a slow roast, for whomever is left: 2018.
The bright side is that not all creatures will parish, there is a new kid in town, that likes heat. It was dropped off by a meteorite in India back in 2001. Okay, I know it sounds crazy, maybe science and the "good book" are wrong.
Remember the story of the anti-christ, and what that thing was going to behave like. Well could it be that it's aready amonst us ?

when the anti christ appears on the earth. he is gonna bring peace to the world and then he will be like the president of the world thats why everybody will obey him but after 7 years on the power he will declare the war of all the nations against israel. and thats the beginning of the armaggedon. this war will be call it armaggedon because is gonna happen in israel in a place call it Meggido. so nobody knows when is coming but i think it will be very soon.

never can tell... we have the technology to cause it and prevent it, but the real question here is....how will the armeggedon start.... its going to be more likely due to politics instead of Global warming and such.
