even if your period is irregular

If your period is irregular, the calculated due date may be off. They will probably do a transvaginal ultrasound at around 6 weeks. In general, the first scan is going to be closer to the true due date. Remember that there may be differences in growth rate among fetuses/embryos. These differences become greater and more apparent as the pregnancy progresses.

The first scan, if done well, should always be the most accurate for the purpose of determining the due date.

It's not possible to determine an exact date of conception, especially if you have irregular periods. I found this info...

How accurate are ultrasounds in determining the conception date to determine paternity? Your healthcare provider will use hormone levels in your blood, the date of your last menstrual period and, in some cases, results from an ultrasound to generate an expected date of conception. However, many differences in each woman's cycle may hinder the accuracy of the conception date calculation. The viability of sperm varies as well, which means that intercourse three to five days prior to ovulation may result in conception. Ultrasound dating of conception is not reliable for determining paternity because the ultrasound can be off by at least 5-7 days in early pregnancy.

The Dr's go by what you tell them..The first day of your last period. That's how they come up with the due date, and yes estimate the day of conception as well as the due date.

With my first child..I delivered my son on my due date. I used to keep a journal of my periods. The day it started, the cramps, and the last day..So it helped to have an accurate due date given. However, with that said, you will have the baby when your body says it time for the baby to come...

I don't know if they can give you the exact day; they'll base your due date on the first day of your last menstrual period. From there they might be able to estimate the day you conceived.

But ask your doctor. Good luck!

they can do an ultrasound to get your measurements and that how they determine it. But it is just an estimate it isnt completely accurate but it does give you an idea around when you concieved or when your due. But there really isnt an accurate way to know for sure.

From experience they can only usually give you an approximate day. The doctor is usually unsure on the date until you have your first sonogram.
