i understand what you are wanting to do, you dont seem versed enough on the subject to ask the exact right question, but my guess is that at current levels of development, you will be able to do what you want in about 50 years. of course, current development will not continue because of the upcoming apocalypse in the name of the devil

The technology for gene therapy is already available for certain diseases, but delivery of the corrected gene into the body still needs to be worked on. With the viral -based vectors, there is the danger of the gene jumping into a region which messes up the genes around it, causing sickness or death to the individual. An improvement would be to allow better specificity of the gene insertion or even better, a human artificial chromosome containing the corrected gene.

The next problem is when do you plan to "edit your genome." As an adult? Your best bet would be to modify stem cells in your body that they would keep dividing; every daughter cell would contain the modified gene. It would be better to modify the gene earlier on, such as in an embryo, so that more cells in the body would contain the corrected gene.

I would give it around 20-40 yrs given the current political climate and ban on stem cell research
