You should absolutely tell that guys lawyer, and get legal advice on this first. Not saying anything is an obstruction of justice, so you have to say something, preferably in your friends favor. (whoever it is that is reading this, anyways) You are an eye witness, and if your friend is not guilty, the jury will decide. If your friend used excessive force, then the jury will also decide.

Beware, and get your own lawyer, because this can also be construed as "failure to report" a crime, which can implicate you. Definately seek legal advice, please.

Good Luck to you and your guy friend.

I really don't know what should be done in this situation. I do think it was a mistake for the suspect to attack the guy like that. He should have turned him in for animal cruelty or grabbed the puppy or something. I don't know. I know of a similar situation where a guy was attacking his ex-wife and the couples son threw a rock at him and it hit him in the head and killed him. The boy had to go to jail but I think didn't have to stay long due to the circumstances.
this is similar but not the same. He should serve some time or at least face the music for this accident. A human being died and it shouldn't just be hushed up. A guy that beat another person to death, whatever the reason really should have some consequences. That, unfortunately is the right thing to happen.

It is all tragedy.

Your friend does not need to live with this on her consciousness. she needs to share with her pastor and get a support base in place before coming forward. Killing is wrong dog or man. I understand that you feel there could be some justification for the action of the young man, but he needs to answer for his actions too. He can't just take things in his own hands every time he sees some thing he feels is wrong. The truth is always the best way in the long run. If she feels she might be harmed by telling the authorities then she needs to put a lawyer or something in the middle to assure her safety.

She should tell the police what she saw. They are likely going to figure out who did it. This way the police have a little better understanding of what happened. Although your friend may have to testify for the guy he may be able to get off, or at the least end up with Voluntary Manslaughter. Without the help the suspect could end up in a lot deeper of trouble.

She has a legal obligation to go to the police and tell them what she saw and not try to protect anyone. By hiding the truth she is basically breaking the law herself and is aiding and abetting the man who killed someone else. No it wasn't right this guy who died had a history and was doing this again, but it was not for the guy who killed him to kill also. Two wrongs do not a right make. He did not go out of his way to kill this guy, but beating him about the head until unconsciousness was also not right. Someone should have called the police on the guy who killed the puppy, while the other guy tried to detain him. If he was defending himself from the guy who died it becomes a sort of self defense, but she still needs to go to police and tell them what she witnessed.

I would say normally she should go to the police but I don't know how they would take this. I think that the guy would still get at least involuntary manslaughter or something and he might be in more trouble because he didn't come forward. I know that he was being cruel to a puppy but I don't think that it would weigh into their minds as much as if it were a person. Did anyone see her there? I don't know this is sooo hard to know what to say. But if it ever comes up that someone saw her there she could be in trouble for not coming forward with information. Maybe she should come forward for her sake....

She needs to go to the police and tell exactly what happened and that the guy she sawor knew was only trying to protect the puppy and that she knew that the guy should come and needed to confess to the police...and to explain tothe police.. as you can see the puppy didnt make it...well..if no one saw her...then she needs to fessup..and tell the police that she is witness the young man only protecting the puppy...So ..tell her to go for it..and she may get a reward and in the process..and then she should give it to the boy and he should donate it to the animal shelter for hurt innocent animals..

She should tell the police b/c the person who killed the man is guilty of a serious crime. If the police question her and she lies, she can be charged with obstruction of justice. The victim having a previous history of crime has no impact whatsoever on the fact that the suspect is guilty of at least manslaughter and possibly second-degree murder.

She should report what she saw to her parents & let them decide what needs to be done. She is a witness to a crime & now a murder. If she's a minor she needs her parents to take charge of the situation. If she's over the age of 18, she needs to do the responsible thing.

Involuntary murder versus animal abuse. We have a judical system set up for dealing with that. She should let the autorities know who did it because otherwise we are jusitfying people taking the law into their own hands. Yes the killing of an animal was sick and wrong. Yes the guy had a right to get angry. He should have handled it by allowing the police to arrest the guy.
