I'm particularly interested in the evening to late night. If insects are still alive, and making noise, generally what kind of insects are there? Thanks for any insight, especially from any locals.

(Another update): If I lived in Mississippi, I would go outside. However, in the Intermountain West, all insects are dead by October. Part of that hole "winter approaching" aspect of nature.

I live about 40 miles south of Hazelhurst, and depending on how warm a fall it is, yes, bugs are very much alive and make noise. Mosquitos will still be pretty bad, but in my experience the most noise you hear in the evening is from frogs. We also have these brown flying beetles that are harmless but can scare you to death...they are usually still around but only will bother you if you are outside under a porchlight. It can be pretty hot in October here...I went to an outdoor concert once that was on Halloween and I wore shorts and a t'shirt - that will give you an idea of just how warm it still is.
