We asked the same question. We needed a new mattress, but box springs was still in extrememly good shape. Both furniture stores in our area would have sold us a mattress only, but the price was almost as much as the set would have been. Also, the mattress company would not have honored the warranty on the mattress if it was not placed on the matching box springs.

sure you can sold one in my yard sale just last week. Box springs weren't much but the matress was good. PS you didn't say new so na na na na na na :-)
