Have we forgotten all of the prejudice and obstacles they had to endure in the past? Have we forgotten about the times when it was considered illegal to teach blacks how to read and write? Now we want to cry foul because they have special scholarship funds to enable them to further their education. Are you for real?

You make a good point hygh2. White suburban schools from grades Kindergarten to 12th grade do receive way more money than minoirity inner city or suburban school districts. No one seems to complain about that. Hmmm.... Now why is that? Another thing that bothers me is how my people want to play the race card. Oh us whites we have it so hard.

Ah Yes. Racism against minorities is all a thing of the past. Yeah, right. You all can't really be this naive. Can you?

Sounds to me like you guys want to bring back the whips and the chains. You should listen to yourselves. "Because minorities have scholarship funds we have to settle for driving a BMW instead of a Bentley." Sorry guys. I have to call it like I see it. You all seem a bit spoiled and selfish. Fact of the matter is there are all kinds of scholarships for us. It is just politically incorrect for us to call them caucasian scholarships. Believe me there are plenty of companies out there with scholarships who have no intention of giving them to a minority.

Chrystal H. What the heck are you talking about? Did you watch an episode of fantasy island. There were no boats waiting to take blacks back to Africa. The only thing that awaited blacks when they were freed was hatred and prejudice. You talk very foolish and show your true ignorance.

Whites, have no reason to cry. They really don't, on average the amount of money spent on kids from the innercity(minorities) is less than children from the suburbs(whites), so from k-12 the suburb child is getting more money for his education while the child from the innercity is getting less. And when a college and scholarship plan comes to the innercity child who tied with the white child, the whites scream foul. It is wrong and stupid.

I just want a little restitution for all my ancestors who sacrificed so the minorities could even go to school. It's the whites who aren't prejudice that get the bad deal. All sides come down on them. I've been to many job sites and whites are only 30% of the labor yet are 70% of the population. When are the minorities going to sacrifice for equality.

There is racism in all races, as well as any other negative attribute.

This the Amerian counterpart of the show at present going on in India-The Reservation Conundrum. The anti-reservations conveniently tend to forget that until recently it was considered a sacrilege for the dalits-the backwards castes to think of learning to read and write. It was an unforgivable sin for the upper castes or even the OBCs to teach them. Savitribai Phule a social reformer of the late 19th century who had opened a school in her house for them and women was stoned by the upper caste people. When now things have eased a little even to the extent of special scholarships and other financial assistants supplemented by a reservation of the services for these dalit candiates the so called meritorious candidates have raised a prima facie valid point against such quotas when the constitution promises equality to all. However, such an argument in the American context smells like the rotten Ku Klux Klan mentality of White Supremacy. We would not admit even to ourselves that we are the descendents of those KKKlan members. Otherwise President Johnson would not have required to have recourse to military to enforce the measure of mixed schools. The ghost of while supremacy has so taken our possession that we even shamefacedly suggest that perhaps the blacks are in an earlier stage of human evolution(the Indians at least don't denigrate the dalits that much) and merit only accrues to the Whites. Even if we take this argument as true for the sake of discussion would it not be our bounden duty to bring our black brothers to our level.Would you consider a race between an athelete with a weakling fair unless you first equalise the opportunity for winning. One of the way would be to give adequate headstart for the weakling to neutralise the strength of the competetior.Else the race would only be what they call a 'tamasha'.Can we Americans have a face to show with all our pretentions to democratic tradition if we do this? Supposing for a moment that the blacks are not upto the mark was it not our responsibility to improve their grades? And we talk of equal opportunity!

1. I am responsible for my OWN actions. Not something that happened hundreds of years ago, the past is the past.
2. In 15-20 more years whites WILL be the minority-look who will be the majority-this is a FACT, DO a google on it.
3. If I lived in a country I felt was not treating me right I would return to my home country.

The answer is in the form of a very simple question. Is discrimination wrong? If it is wrong, then any form of discrimination is wrong, even having special funds to give to minorities.

Think of it another way. If we can all agree that the past discriminationw as wrong, can two wrongs ever make a right?

What I want is equality of opportunity for all. The special funds do not allow that.

Having special scholarships funds available only to minorities is discrimination - the same discrimination they had to endure in the past.

If discrimination was wrong then, why isn't it wrong now?

Hon, have you forgotten that those times were a long time ago? Either there is equality or there isn't. Either they get their scholarships on merit or they don't. I had nothing to do with any of that and neither I nor my son should have to be penalized for the past. The distant past.

Yes it was in the past. Over 100 years in the past. How long does it take to get their act together? Most whites aren't complaining because they want equality. They are complaining because they want special privileges above anyone else.

It's not my fault or my kids fault what happened in the past. Did you forget the there were boats waiting to take people back to Africa after they were set free? You CHOSE to stay here. It's not our fault that minorities aren't as smart as us.
