You are thinking too hard. With poetry, the more you try, the less it flows. Try writing your feelings in prose. Walk away from it, then come back a day or so later, and you will see the flow of what you have written, and be able to refashion it in a more poetic way. Sometimes prose love letters, just by separating the lines, can be poetic in themselves. True poetry is the feeling, not the words.

Take a favorite book, put yourself in the protagonist's position and rewrite a chapter or a few pages, making a new story. Add a new ending to the book, or an epilogue. Keep writing, even if it is lousy, keep going and the block should leave.

I write poems as well and sometimes I get the block. The best thing I found is to just leave it alone and the grand idea will hit you when its time. Good Luck.

Read LOTS of romantic poetry. Not to copy it, but often in your reading you will come upon a phrase or passage that reminds you of a personal situation. Catching that fragment of an idea will lead you to expand on it with your own spin. It can get the words flowing again. Trust me.

if i get boxed in on something i try to take another look at the inspiration. some times your thinking you have to do it one way and that is why you are blocked or you just need to relax and if it is your way of being romantic or expressing your self to him then be truth full love is pure. so start simple.

listen to a song that's important to you. or a movie you've always love and concentration on that think about what's happening and how it effectes everybody else. then go back to your poem and think about the same things. your views on your art will change.

I agree with Beth--just start writing. Your editor is turned on and you're judging what you write. Just write anything, nonsense, describe emotions, string words together without censoring. Something will arrive without your "making" it arrive.

I'd try...going away for a while and coming back to try again. Now, if you can sing...and can make up a song in your head...start with what you already have...or just start singing and rhyme it. That might help...
