Have just recently replaced the modem, it had been kicking me off every few seconds, now it takes 2hrs to download my e-mail

If your connection says it is running a 31200bps, then that is the fastest connection it could establish with the other computer. Try replacing the phone line running from the computer to the jack, or try a different jack in the house.

Did the old modem have to be replaced because it was damaged? If the new modem is in the same slot, try moving the modem to a new slot, the slot may have been damaged when the old modem was damaged.

Also try going to the dialup connection, and in the modem configuration, lower the port speed. The default is 115200, try lowering it to 57600 or 38400.

Well, unfortunately dial up connection speeds are a lie. It says download capabilities are 31,200bps or 31.2kbps, but in actuality, you will only get 10% of that. So you should be doing something like 3.12 kpbs. Thats why it takes forever. Stop being cheap and go you some DSL mang!

1 byte = 1024 so do the mat, not nearly to a 56kbps modem connection, that's why
