Is it for the points, to help people, to show off your knowledge, or something else?

I'm here first, to entertain, and be entertained, and second to help people. Then, somewhere in there, is the points, the bragging rights, and to generally be a thorn in the side of the trolls.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I answer in the hopes that someone genuinely benefits from my opinions, feelings, and knowledge.

For me, it's a little of both; I'm confident in my intelligence, and I like sharing it (especially after seeing some of the truly dumb things people can say), but I assume the questions people ask are genuine, and I genuinely wish to help as best I can.

Some people answer only for the points.

For me, the points are relatively minor. I like to help people, AND I like to show off my insightful eloquence.

It's good social interaction and it's also rewarding to have people "listen" to you. You feel like you are being taken seriously.
