When my sister in-law was pregnant her doctor had told her not to take any warm baths cause that could prevent complications with her unborn child. When I told and asked my own mom about it, she laughed at me and told me not to listen to my sister in-law. I'm thinking, from the baby boomer era to the year 2006 - new studies might have occured. Who is right here? My sister in-law who said, "taking warm baths is dangerous for your unborn child" versus my mom who said, "taking warm baths is actually good for you and your unborn child." Could anybody tell me the real truth?

It's a HOT bath that a pregnant woman should avoid. As in hot tubs. Or anything scalding over 100 degrees. Anything that causes your body temperature to rise could be harmful. So, technically, a warm bath is fine throughout your whole pregnancy. At the end of your pregnancy---baths can be awkward with your belly. And if your water breaks, you should not take a bath AT ALL----as bacteria can enter and harm your baby. A warm bath is actually relaxing for a mom-to-be---so your mom is right.

I always steered clear of baths. You shouldn't take a "hot" bath, because the heat can raise both your temperature and the baby's. And no one can tell you what temperature "hot" is....I wouldn't want a study coming out AFTER I had taken a warm bath, and found that the temperature was one degree too high.

A "warm" bath is probably safe, but just imagine if something DID go wrong with the baby...as a mom, you'd never forgive yourself. Even if it had nothing to do with the relaxing warm baths, you'd always wonder. Just take showers and be safe.

Im almost 5months pregnant. When I first found out I was pregnant that was the first thing I asked my Doctor cuz I take a hot bath every night before bed. What my doctor told me was that a warm bath is not harmful to you or the baby AT ALL.
You just dont want to take a HOT bath as that could harm the baby because their tempature is hotter than ours.
The Doctor also mentioned to stay away from hot tubs through out your pregnancy.

It's ok to take a bath. It is actually a good way to relax before bed if you're having a hard time sleeping. Your body temperature shouldn't reach over 100 degrees, but since most of your body is out of the water during a bath, it would have to be burning hot, and you'd have to stay very long. If you're really concerned, just call your dr.

It is okay to take warm baths, it is not okay to take a HOT bath. Too much heat can cause problems, but a nice warm bath is fine. You can't take a bath for awhile after the baby is born (probably forever or so it seems at this point).

It's okay to take warm baths the first trimester, but you should never take long hot baths, and stay out of the sauna or hot tub.

Later in your pregnancy, it is advised that you not take baths, as the chance of slipping and falling, thus hurting your child, is greater. Also, at the very end, if you have lost your plug, you should not bathe because of the germiness of the bathtub.

Its fine to take warm baths, just not over 101 degrees as this can raise your body temp too high posing potential problems for the baby.

With both my pregnancies (both babies came out just fine), I was told it was OK to take "warm" baths. The key is not to let the water get "hot", because you don't want to raise your body temperature too much.
