I have been using AVG free for over 3 years without a virus. I am on the computer 3 to 8 hours a day 4 to 6 days a week. The reviews say Avast is better but I have little to compain about. I am sticking with AVG.
Here are a list of 4 freeware antivirus programs. If you wonder why they are free, each one has a full feature subscription version.

Hi, perhaps you can try Norton or Mcafee to remove the virus, but you should pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus, becasue the virus can only run on IE.
firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spywareware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

i have just installed a trial for norton anti-virus and it seems ok at the moment, just be patient when installing it as it takes ages for it to load unless you have about 2gb of memory
i use 512mb on this p.c and this is around the right memory for using norton,if you want to use the trial version go to http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/v2/ec_main.entry25?page=1582AIndexPage&client=Symantec&sid=27674
another good program if you want a free alternative is avast4,this is avalible from http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

If you want a free edition, Just go through avast! antivirus. You can get it from www.avast.com or if you want any purchased edition, go for bitdefender. This is the best. It has also a free edition but it will not provide you the real time scan.

In test after test, Kaspersky (KAV) almost always has the best virus detection rates of any a-v. But it is fairly expensive... $40 a year
