Probably:
THE CONTRACEPTIVE PILL which had a major cultural influence on society. The emancipation of women from their reproductive straightjacket led to the free-love movements of the '60s and the spearhead of the sexual revolution, bringing sweeping social, cultural and economic change to all parts of western society.
But of course, I would also say large scale integration of the MICROCHIP in the 80s was a major, world changing invention, affecting the daily lives of everyone on the planet in one way or another.

The MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, it is one of the great, and to me, greatest) inventions in the last 50 years.
It is an invaluable tool for diagnosticians and literally saves tens of thousands of people a year. Enabling physicians, surgeons , all doctors to pinpoint and treat hereto fore undiagnosable conditions.

Would agree about the internet.
The ability to record TV programmes is invaluable to me, so I would have to give my second vote to the Video Recorder and, latterly to the DVD HDD Recorder.
Other people would think, and rightly so, that developments in medical science have been the greatest.
