Asking my black and white friends?

Question

Why is it proper to have a Black Miss America and not proper to have a White Miss America? And please lets not bring up the minority issue, its old and out dated. This is the 2000's. Sounds like a little reverse racism to me.

You don't want the minority issue brought up but it's something that simply can't be helped. Racism is all around us whether it's in your face, in a pageant, in advertising, etc. Look at your commercials on television i.e. Target, Gap you might find one African-American besides twenty Causcasians. That's not fair at all but no one speaks out about that. I think the reason there is a African-American Miss America because I think their trying to change things up. Their trying to let people know that you can be any race and still have a chance. I think the Miss America pageant should have a Miss America from all different cultures because if you haven't noticed all Americans aren't African-Americans or Causcasians. America is a melting pot of cultures and Miss America pageants should represent that melting pot.

there's no such thing as reverse racism; there's just plain old racism and that is it. doesn't anyone else here hate it when a white man starts owning racism like he tries with everything else? and what else would a pageant that has only black females be called? The Miss America Pageant? white people took ownership of that a long time ago. besides, people would be tuning in to see a bunch of white girls only to be disappointed by the actuality of the program. What about the the PGA? would the WPGA be considered sexist because only women play on this tour? I could go on, but ridiculous white people make me sick, so I will not continue with this posting.

We may not need it, but the first Miss Black America was held in 1968. There seriously was a need for it then. Why stop a good thing? It owuldn't make sense to ask the chairmen of this organization to stop having their pagaent. Believe it or not there is still a great deal of racism. Maybe not nearly as much as there was a few years ago, but it is still seriously prominent in some areas. I witness it every day. I don't really perceive it as "reverse racism" per se... Now I do think that every ones future is generally the result of what they do or fail to do, and that most of their lives are in our hands. Although you referred to the minority issue as being "old and outdated", you can't reasonably deny that it still exists. Now, I see your point regarding pageants, however I don't feel as though there's a completely level "playing-field", if you will. So I don't see this as being wrong considering the fact that most pageants' participants are part of the majority so there isn't much point in having a white Miss America pageant.

Because Black people like to be separate from white people it not racist we just consider our self one people who see no wrong to have our own stuff. They, some people in the past didn't think we needed. Hopeful we would have everything that a nation would have. Our own schools, businesses, communities were we can see others blacks living like we once were.

You may not think it should be this way but that's the way it is and we like it this way. If you live long enough you would know most blacks and whites don't always agree on race relations not even most of the time. Blacks wanted equality, respect and fairness, they never claim they wanted to do everything or be like white people, never. My experience teach me some do things different to be different from whites. We want our own stuff we want to turn on the TV and find things that blacks like to watch so we watch BET because would you watch BET? NO, so the things BET show want make it into a white audience because the culture is different.

As for Miss America for blacks the only reason it one is because back in the very short pass like 15-20 years ago Blacks were not seen as Beauty standards to whites, and Black would have never won Miss America, until Naomi Campbell. When you think about it all the things blacks got was because of racism. BET because whites did want to see black culture, NAACP because whites didn't want to pay for blacks to go to school at that time.

Yeah, you are right. If there is a Black Miss America-there should be a White Miss America. If the blacks can have a NAACP then we need an organization to stand up for our rights(i don't mean a hate group like the KKK). It is getting where white people have no rights-i am worried for the future.

There is a "White Miss America". The only difference is the subtlety in it. Black Miss America sounds very obvious. The mainstrem is majority white, but it isn't called that. The mainstream has always been ruled by the white majority. Most persons don't refer to it as "white". Many blacks, however, will refer to anything run by blacks as "black".

Well because other minority groups will see that as offensive if that was a White Miss America! it's not racist. You don't see a lot of African-American women in paegants but now we havw the opportunity to represent not just for the African-American community, but for EVERYBODY! That was a good question! i've always thought that creating a separate group that caters to minorities is not helping us bridge this so-called "white nation"

so, over the years, we've mostly had white women win miss america... i think that if we didnt have black miss america, we'll have more beautiful black women join the miss america pageant and they'll have more chances of winning.
