Would a play/musical of "The Hobbit" have parts for girls? (Do the spiders have a big part?)

Wow, "read the book and find out" people: thats not an answer to the question...nice job trying to get points by being no help - um lets see- cause i dont WANT to read it- which is why i ASKED instead of reading it- i don't have time to read it..i am asking because my friend wants to see if she should try out for the play. And you're a joke if you say 'read it and find out,' how about being helpful instead of rude? gosh.
anyone who is cooperative- THANK YOU for being decent and considerate instead of mean.

If you are doing this at a community theater level, I imagine (like for our theater productions) it is difficult to get boys to audition. Therefore, many of the roles are filled by girls.

While I am somewhat familiar with the story, I did do some research for other productions and found a cast list where many parts are filled by girls and in the face of mythical creatures, this should be easily and convincingly done. Check out the following cast list from another youth theater and you will see that many parts throughout the cast are done by girls - including the spiders. I'm not sure if the spider part is a big part, however...

If you are adapting "The Hobbit" into a play or musical, you can certainly add female roles, but as the book is written, there are no major female parts. Most of the action involves BIlbo, Gandalf, and the Dwarves, and these are all male parts.

As to your second question, no, the spiders do not have a big part, but they do have an important part for Bilbo's sword gets it name "The Sting" as a result of Bilbo's attack on the spiders.

The other thing I will mention is that if you are planning on doing an adaption of "The Hobbit" you should look into what permissin you need.

If my memory serves . . . there are no female roles in the Hobbit. However, there is no reason that a female can't play a male role. Until very recently, Peter Pan was always played by a woman. Don't you think it would be fun for the girls to play the elves?

The fact that you called her easy says that you already think less of her. There is a different standard for girls than there is guys and it sucks. A girl who is "easy" is usually just insecure and worried that she has to do that to keep you interested. Maybe men should realize that it's just as much their job to protect our "virtue" as it is ours. If you weren't trying to get in her pants, you wouldn't have gotten in them. Girls know that guys want sex and when a girl is insecure, she will do things she doesn't really want to just to make him happy. And she will feel bad about it...most likely for a long time. She will always wonder if you think less of her or if the only reason you stay with her is because she's having sex with you. Take responsibility for your actions before you call HER easy.
