I was watching 101 Worst Celebrity Oops on VH1 the other day, when I was stuck waiting in the doctor's office and I really think they summed it up best, when they made fun of Harrison Ford for the earring that appeared on his ear when he started dating Calista Flockhart - both sides look equally gay. Men should just forego the earring. It's not a turn on.
But, here's what Wikipedia says:
In the latter part of the 20th century, some Americans and Europeans adopted the convention that when a man pierced just one of his ears, it symbolized his being gay. In some circles, it was the left ear, while in others, the right. Men with bilateral ear piercings were relatively rare, and were sometimes interpreted as effeminate or bisexual. However, the convention tended to vary from one region to the next, and was not always followed. Sometimes, men would pierce a particular side to symbolize their preferred role in a relationship (see hanky code), or for personal style preference. Since the early 1990s, the concept has largely lost its signficance (bmezine.com).

Ok here is the best answer. YOUR LEFT ear is the non-gay side. Your right ear is supposed mean your gay. If you get both ears done the just confuses everyone so they assume your either a hip hop guy or gay. Big Diamond or single hoop not gay. Dangle or gay earing mean gay. OK since I said that....Not that there is anything wrong with being gay! If I wrote that non-PC otherwise itwould have taken to long.

Ok, first of all. My husband has both ears pierced. Second of all talk about judging a book by it's cover! Just b/c a guy has a certain piercing or even his ear pierced on a certain side doesn't make him gay. That's like saying all women who have their tongue pierced are gay. I have mine done and I'm not gay. It's ridicious. It doesn't matter what side you get it done on. Society have created this all b/c a homosexual decided to get his ear pierced and then came the issue!

Left is right, right is wrong.
I used to pierce ears at a shop I worked in in Texas.
But you might consider getting them both pierced since there are so many different answers from different parts of the country!

It depends on what coast you live on. If you live on the West Coast, the left side is the "non-gay" side, but it is the opposite on the East Coast. (I don't know why). To avoid any kind of confusion, many gays now pierce both their ears as a kind of "covering all bases" kind of thing.

Getting one earring is gay, period, regardless of what ear it's in. I think ear piercings on a dude are gay altogether actually. Like snacksgirl said, get a brow or lip piercing, tons of chicks really dig lip piercings man.

The opposite of the side you get your ear pierced if you had gone around the world by boat.
(I'm just making this up. What you are asking is a myth).
